Born in 1995 in Carrara, I attended both the Art High School and the Academy here. I graduated with honors in Painting in 2022. I’m currently attending my second two-year specialization program, in Comic Art, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.

What I’ve come to understand about painting is that it’s not so much about techniques and materials, but about the approach. I apply a painterly approach to everything I do — from the way I observe things to the sensitivity with which I bring them to life. That’s why, even though I tend to favor dry techniques like soft pastels or primarily graphic materials like ballpoint pens, I have no hesitation in calling my work “painting.”

While working on my thesis pieces in 2022, something shifted. I started incorporating elements that are nontraditional in painting — even anti-painting. Violent tears in the paper, asymmetries, a stark optical white background overpowering the color, a residue of an image that is neither figurative nor abstract. That’s when I began to feel my work was, in some way, valid.

The works on display belong to two different series. The first, Rabbit Hole, is a dark tunnel that branches out endlessly — a hallucinatory journey accessed through the everyday. The series is complete, yet I feel the theme is not yet exhausted. It may return in the future, possibly in other media.

The second, Am I enough?, is still evolving. It stems from questions I’ve asked myself — and continue to ask. From the uncertainty of being able to take an active part in one’s own contemporary moment.
