Gaia Pivac
Gaia Pivac is a multimedia artist based in Carrara. Her aesthetic research focuses on audiovisual memory and the interaction between light, matter, and perception.
She began her studies in Figurative Arts in Reggio Emilia, later expanding her practice through Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara and the Marble School. She is currently completing a research thesis in Cinema, Photography, and Audiovisual Arts entitled “Cinematographic Portals. The Tautological Nature of Light”, where she explores the concept of light as matter and its power to generate meaning and memory.
Alongside her academic work, she is actively involved in the creation of cultural events and the organization of exhibitions. In these contexts, she merges analytical insight into social dynamics with a deep metaphysical investigation of light and image, drawing inspiration from Bergson’s idea of memory as a succession of consciousness-images.
Her artistic practice seeks to spark curiosity and foster communication — from the Latin communicare, meaning “to make common,” or “to fulfill one’s duty towards others” — in response to the phenomenon of each fleeting moment, lived and shared.
