Andrea Polenta was born in Carrara in 1996, where he still lives and works. He graduated in April 2022 in Architecture from the University of Florence. Initially his artistic practice went hand in hand with spontaneity. Over the years he has developed a different approach, combining the improvisation of a gesture with the pursuit of a precise theme. Starting from background brushstrokes, moving through dripping and colour spread with spatulas, a subject emerges -- abstract yet connected to the title of the work. In December 2019 he had the opportunity to take part in a group exhibition in New York, at Gallery 104. This marked the beginning of a change for him, confirmed shortly afterwards during another exhibition at Palazzo Saluzzo in Genoa. Spending more and more time in art spaces, Andrea decided to embark on a more intimate and personal path. In September 2020 he attended a course to refine his figurative drawing and various painting techniques. In recent times the Carrara-based artist has been working with marmettola, a material derived from the primary processing of marble that is often dispersed into the environment, causing serious damage to the natural ecosystem. To combat this pollution, Andrea recycles this waste, transforming it into pigments and material textures to apply to his canvases. In his most recent solo exhibition "No more White", nine paintings are displayed to raise awareness on this theme, but also to draw attention to the living Presence beneath the marble, reminding us that before intervening in Nature it is essential to listen to it, in order to act with respect.
